Holly Hill Primary and Nursery School

Owls, Year 5/6, 2023/24

A very big Welcome to you all.  I am Mrs Balchin, Owl class teacher and this year Owl class will be supported by Mrs Rawson, Mrs Mosedale and Miss Hill. We very much look forward to working with your children in what will be an exciting year ahead.

At the top of this page you will see icons dedicated to each half term. When you click on these you will be able to see updates about what we’ve been up to, lots of photographs of our learning and examples of children’s work too.

Please get in touch if I can help you in any way.

Owl class on transition Day

The children had a fabulous couple of sessions on transition day. We did some cool poses for our Transition display. Take a look at these! No laughing allowed!😂😂

The children had a fabulous few sessions getting a feel for their new environment, meeting new friends and getting to know me. We carried out fun activities and games and had some interesting discussions. The children started to create some work for our Year 5 and 6 Jigsaw board which we’re looking forward to showing you soon.

Useful Information

Reading

As a school we expect that the children read at least 5 times a week.  In Year 5 they can fill in their own diaries if they wish. If you can still hear your child read and look at their diaries on a regular basis that would also be beneficial. There are many opportunities for the children to read on a daily basis. We have a guided reading session daily and the children will also get some quiet reading time. Children needing extra practice will also read 1:1 between 3-5 times weekly. There are also countless opportunities for reading activities in English lessons and in other curriculum areas.

PE

PE will this year be on a Monday and Tuesday and children will need a full PE kit for these days. They each have their own locker so PE kits can be kept in school so that they are not forgotten on PE days.  As we approach Winter please provide some Warner PE clothing as the children will still be going out for their PE lesson.
Earrings must be removed before the children can do PE for health and safety reasons.

Homework

Homework throughout school is focussed on Reading, Spelling and learning Times tables. The children will also get their Mathletics and TTRockstars logins and these programs can be used at home also.
