DAY 5 - MAKE THE BEST HAT USING RECYCLING. WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS TASK AND EVEN DID A CATWALK AFTERWARDS!
RECYCLED HAT CATWALK
The spontaneous and supportive rounds of applause after each person showed their creation made me very happy! Here was the winner of the best recycled hat task...
Here’s the runner up!
DAY 4 - DEFINITELY THE BEST SO FAR - CHOREOGRAPH THE BEST DANCE. WE HAD THE BEST TIME EVER DOING THIS CHALLENGE - I WAS TOO BUSY LAUGHING AND SMILING TO TAKE ANY VIDEOS!
DAY 3 - MAKE THE BEST SELF PORTRAIT. INSIDE AND OUTSIDE EDITION!
DAY 2 CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH WEEK - INVENT A GAME WITH ONLY 3 RULES AND 1 PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. THE TEAM THAT HAS THE MOST FUN WINS!
DAY 1 CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH WEEK - MAKE THE BEST RAINBOW
We’re going to be joining in with TASKMASTER games as part of Children’s Mental Health Week. The aim of the activities is to educate children about their own mental health, as well as having a whole lot of fun!
09.02.23 We’ve been researching achievements made during the Golden Age and creating information posters.
03.02.23 On Monday, we started designing some dinner plates using the Islamic art concept on vegetal patterns. We finished them em off this afternoon and they look amazing!
02.02.23 This afternoon, we learnt about Baghdad as the ‘round city’. We researched the city and drew a representative drawing!
01.02.23 Swans really blew me away in gymnastics this morning. The video shows you just a snippet of some of the balancing, jumping and shape routines that we carried out today. I even had a real tear in my eye as I watched some of the more confident children work alongside their partner while they performed to the class to support and encourage them. What a wonderful community of friendship and teamwork the children have built in Swan class. My superstars 🌟
01.02.23 We finished P.E today with a game of ‘Crab Football’ - it was an absolute hit!
01.02.23 Continuing our work on the circulatory system in Science, this afternoon, we tested the impact that exercise has on the heart. We measured our resting heart rate and then carried out different exercises to determine how the BPM of our heart changed each time. We struggled to conceptualise what our pulse actually was, and some people who couldn’t find it at first didn’t believe it was there, but Miss Fretwell remembered a trick. Stick a cocktail stick in the top of a marshmallow, lay it on your wrist, and as blood is being pumped through your arteries, the cocktail stick will jiggle!
To carry out our investigation, we headed outside to perform different exercises and then measured our heart beats per minute. We timed our beats in 15 seconds and used our multiplication skills to multiply by 4. I think Y3/4 were confused when Y6 exercised around them during their Active 15!
30.01.23 We had such a wonderful Monday today! We’ve changed our timetable around so that we can fit in Guided Reading in a morning and we loved it! We were so productive today that we had a full afternoon of Art. We were drawing vegetal patterns inspired by Islamic art and designed a dinner plate. We got on so beautifully that we had some ‘real’ music on and not just instrumental music. Harry Styles was the artist of choice this afternoon and it put us all in a great mood!
25.01.23 Gymnastics today was all about balancing!
20.01.23 This afternoon we became blood experts! We learnt about the 4 parts of the blood by researching on the laptops, then made our own blood! We dyed water yellow as the plasma, used cheerios dyed red for the red blood cells, marshmallows for the white blood cells and pom poms for the platelets. It also happened that somebody had brought a microscope to school for us to see a real red and white blood cell! What an amazing lesson we had! 🩸
18.01.23 We had our second gymnastics lesson today. We were doing different styles of jumps off of apparatus. We even tried some synchronised jumping too!

12.01.23 We’ve been learning about tessellation in Art this week. We had the compasses out trying to begin our pattern with a perfect circle!
11.01.23 Today was our first gymnastics lesson 🤸♀️ We started practising shapes and movements, then introduced some apparatus to use in a routine.
10.01.23 Today, Year 5 and 6 took part in an R.E. Workshop to give us a brief understanding about the religion and culture that was present in the Early Islamic Civilization. The Rev. Johnson was a fantastic example of how a Christian can disagree with, but still have respect for, other faiths.
05.01.23 A new year means a new seating plan! We’re going to be trying moving our seats more regularly to give us a range of learning partners. This morning, we used a random name generator and we loved starting the new year off with a new partner to share ideas with. We had plenty of new ideas to share today: we started our new topic, a new English book (1001 Arabian Nights), a new Maths unit on ratio and began some work on Islamic art. What a productive first day back!
