Arlo and Jesse having their fine motor skills session today with Mrs Warsop. I loved the tennis ball activity even though Jesse beat me on it!

Friday 24th March

Supporting and strengthening structures……in groups making a bridge.

Wednesday 22 nd March. Bringing our History to life..... exploring the World War II artefacts. Asking questions, inferring information, discussing with a partner. A baby gas mask, air raid warden’s lamp, some shrapnel, a tin of powdered eggs and a helmet were just some of the objects we studied.

🌷🌷🌷❤️ A very Happy Mother’s Day wished to all our mums, mamars, grans and grandmas this weekend. We hope you have a lovely day ❤️ 🌷🌷🌷

Friday 17th March. Fun with optical illusions on British Science week.

Thursday 16th March

In our first electricity lesson we recapped Year 4 work to show that we could construct a simple circuit using one output component. We then added a switch to cut the circuit and turn off the light. Some of us managed this straight away. Some pairs had to play about with our components or even change them if we thought they weren't working.
We then drew our circuits using the scientific symbols.

Wednesday 15th March. Being a Forensic Scientist ........Taking part in British Science week we’ve been investigating our fingerprints and making careful scientific observations and comparing each others fingerprints.

Tuesday 14th March. Writing a setting description for a Blitz scene in World War 2.

Monday 13th March.
Today we have been collecting good vocabulary ready for our writing at the end of the week….writing a setting description to describe a scene from a city during the blitz in WWII. We’ve collected figurative language in similes, metaphors and our favourite…..personification. Ask us for examples of each of these 😊

Friday 10th March

SNOW DAY (Yippeee)

You will already know that school will not be open today due to the lovely snow outside. It's time to get outside and enjoy yourselves if you're able to.  Go for a walk, build a snowman or have a snowball fight.  Have a lovely time making snow memories.  Later on when you have had enough and get too cold we have put some activities up for you to have a go at if you wish.  There are some snowy poems for you to have a go with  as I know you all loved our poetry writing last week.  Have a go at Snow poetry in the style of Paul Cookson or why not try a reverse poem that you were all so good at!  Or have a look at the other poem ideas on the sheet below - I'm liking the 'Nineteen things to do in the Winter' or the 'Snow Joke' so if no one will come for a walk with me later I may try thoselaugh

Bring your poems to school on Monday along with any photos of yourselves enjoying the snow.  Scroll down from the Remote learning timetable to find a sheet of extra snow challenges - with some science challenges in there too!

Have a great day.  See you on Monday when hopefully we'll be able to move back to our classroom.

Wednesday 8th March

Today we’ve been working on our Science end of unit explanation piece….showing our knowledge of the Circulatory system. There were many fabulous pieces of work.

Tuesday 7th March

Starting our text for this half term. We explored the front cover and blurb to predict genre, story setting, character clues and plot.

Monday 6th March
In History we’re continuing to learn about WWII and the countries which were involved including the Allies and Axis countries. We plotted countries on a world map.

Thursday 2nd March

Enjoying the library and sharing a book on World Book Day.

Wednesday 1st March. Modelling our creations.

Tuesday 28th February. Preparations for World Book Day. There were some fabulous looking t-shirts in the making!

Monday 27th February

We enjoyed some more of Paul Cookson’s poems and joined in with the ones we were familiar with. We then used the structure of the poems to write some of our own.

Thursday 23rd February

English/History

What’s behind the squares?

What can you see?

What are the clues?

Maddox really cleverly spotted the gas masks in the photograph and someone else the radio. We listened to the Prime Minister announcing the start of World War II and we discussed the fact that families like this one in the picture would have been huddled around the wireless to listen to this dreaded news.

Today we made a glossary of World War II vocabulary. We’ve used dictionaries and carried out research to learn some of the definitions of the key vocabulary ready to start our topic.

Tuesday 21st February

We kicked off our World Book Day activities today with a visit from the poet Paul Cookson. The children loved listening to him reading his poems as they came to life infront of their eyes. They also joined in with performing some of them. Paul shared strategies for writing poems and the children started to write a poem together.  Some of the children have also bought one of Paul’s books for themselves.
