Holly Hill Primary and Nursery School

Spring 2

In Science, we will be learning about rocks and soils. We will be learning about igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks. We will learn that rocks are used for different purposes according to their properties.

In RE, we will be thinking about the journey of life and death and how different religions have different beliefs on this.

In Geography, we will be learning about volcanoes and earthquakes. We will locate various volcanoes and find out how earthquakes are caused. We will learn that the earth is structured in different layers.

In English, we will be reading The Girl Who Stole an Elephant by Nizrana Farook.

Spellings - Year 3 and 4 Common Exception Words and Ideas to Practise Spellings

In Year 3, children are expected to know the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times table. They have been learning 2, 5 and 10 in Year 2 so this year we will be learning the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. These can be found at the back of their reading diary. Children will be tested every Friday on their tables so any support you can give your child to learn them would be fantastic. They will have times tables mixed in  tests to practise for the online test we do in school at the end of each term.

Click here to practise times tables using the online test. Click Play Game, Adjust Difficulty, then deselect 6,7,9,11 and 12 times tables.

Your child has their TT Rockstars information at the back of their reading diary.

Here are some activities you may want to do while at home today. A TT Rockstars battle has also been set up and will end tonight. These are optional. Please have a wonderful day enjoying this snowy weather. See you Monday Dove Class. Ms Webb x
