Spring 2

SPRING 2

WORLD WAR 2

Scroll down to see what we've been up to this half term!

28.03.23 We’ve been taking on the role of a WW2 evacuee and have been writing letters home to our families. These two people tried incredibly hard!

23.03.23 Today, the builders entered Swan class, so Swan class entered the infant hall! The children handled this change so well and are being super flexible (I’m learning a lot from them!!) We have some speakers to play our calm music, so all is well! Here’s a little look at our new home for the next week!

22.03.23 Today’s assembly was on National Water Day, and Riley bravely volunteered to show the whole school how heavy this bucket of precious water was, to demonstrate the difficulty some people go through to get water to their homes and that not everybody is as lucky as we are to have water fountains and running taps.

This week’s wonderful heroes!

17.03.23 Swans spent the afternoon doing DT, designing their own WW2 bomb shelter and bringing it to life on TinkerCad.

After our lesson yesterday looking at WW2 artefacts, Marley surprised us by bringing in some of his own artefacts from home! We loved looking at them this morning and hearing Marley talk so knowledgeably about them.

16.03.23 What a wonderful afternoon we had today! We borrowed some WW2 artefacts from a museum and investigated them, making predictions about what they were and how they were used. We were most shocked by the baby gas mask!

15.03.23 Just a glimpse of some wonderful writers at work - we’re working in a setting description of a city after the Blitz.

It looks like Swans have been having a wonderful snow day at home! ⛄️

OPTIONAL SNOW DAY ACTIVITIES

We know that many of the children would enjoy some snow day activities, and perhaps some parents will be working from home and would appreciate something to keep the children entertained (whilst still having fun!) Please see below some optional snow day activities - these are completely optional and are in no way an expectation. The most important thing is to just have a wonderful day of snowy fun!

If you would like to send any snowy pictures of the children having fun, you can e-mail them to me at swanclass@hollyhill.notts.sch.uk and I can upload them to this webpage for their friends to see! I've started the pictures off below with a snowy Ernie in the garden this morning!

Have a wonderful snowy day, wrap up warm and I'll see you on Monday!

10.03.23 OPTIONAL SNOW DAY ACTIVITIES

09.03.23 We put down our morning work this morning and headed straight outside for fun in the snow! ☃️❄️🌨️

Then we headed back inside to warm up with hot chocolate and mini marshmallows while we finished our English work ☕️😋

Despite the snow excitement, we did find some time to start learning about volume in Maths. Things got practical!

We kicked off Spring 2 with four heroes!

03.03.23 We started our P.E lesson with a game of ‘Hula Hoop Rock Paper Scissors’ which went down a hit to warm ourselves up. Once we were warmed up mentally and physically, we played some games of dodgeball and worked on being strategic and playing as a team.

03.03.23 WORLD BOOK DAY! 📚 📕 📖 We made book characters from potatoes, then used the potato characters as inspiration to design our own book marks and for our entrances to the annual reading diary cover competition!

22.02.23 The arithmetic practise is in full swing - we love using the iPads in lessons!

21.02.23 We had local poet Paul Cookson come and perform some of his poetry today, and we absolutely loved it! It was entertaining and inspiring, and we can’t wait for World Book Day next week to study more of his poetry!
