Autumn 1

Wednesday 12th October

We’ve been doing loads of maths in The Nest recently and it hasn’t been easy! Here’s an example of some of the fantastic work that’s been done today, practicing how to do column addition of 2-digit numbers!

Monday 10th October

Our most recent book in The Nest has been ‘Anansi the Spider’. Today, the children were tasked with matching the correct speech bubble with the correct spider son of Anansi. They all did fantastic and were able to match up all of the speech to the correct spider.

Friday 7th October

As you can see we’ve had a very enjoyable morning in The Nest this morning! We have been learning about Yom Kippur and how they traditionally eat sweet treats like Honey Loaf cake, which we had a go at baking together. The finished product was delicious and we all enjoyed giving it a try!

Monday 3rd October

This afternoon, we continued our work on maps by having a go at designing a map of our school from memory. As you can see the children had a good go at this and were really proud of their work.

Wednesday 29th September

Today the children carried on their work on habitats. This time they discussed different animals and then sorted them into the habitats they live in. Some we found pretty easy but some we had to think about quite a lot!

Tuesday 27th September

This afternoon, the children had a go at practising their pencil drawing and sketching skills. As you can see they all gave this a really good go and created some fantastic artwork.

Friday 23rd September

After hearing our new story this week, ‘Bringing the rain to Kapiti Plain’, the children were tasked with creating a map of Kapitit Plain. As you can see the children did a great job at drawing and labelling their maps.

Thursday 22nd September

The children have been hearing our new English story this week, ‘Bringing the rain to Kapiti Plain’. Today they had a go at sequencing the story using pictures. They all did really well with this and worked really hard.

Tuesday 20th September

This morning, some of the children continued their learning of counting backwards by ordering numbers within 30 from highest to lowest using the Interactive Whiteboard. They all did amazing at this and are really getting the hang of counting backwards.

Friday 16th September

Today, some of the children were comparing weight using a balance scale in their maths. As you can see we used lots of different resources from around the classroom for this. Other children in the class had a go at stacking objects. All the children did really well and have worked really hard too!

Thursday 15th September

It has been another busy day in The Nest today. This morning we took some time to practise counting backwards from 20 using a fun song that got us up and dancing too!
This afternoon, the children got the chance to try apples dipped in honey a traditional sweet treat eaten during the celebration of Rosh Hashanah.

Wednesday 14th September

This afternoon, we took a trip to the woods in search of different insects and plants that live on the school site. As you can see, all of the children did a fantastic job and were able to find all sorts of different insects using their magnifying glasses.

Monday 5th September

Even though it was the first day back, we jumped straight into our work in The Nest. This afternoon, we took a look at electronic maps and how we can use them to locate places we know.
