Holly Hill Primary and Nursery School

Spring 2

Scroll down for weekly updates on all our learning adventures! Our topic this half term is...

27.03.24 Designing our own Anglo-Saxon settlement - masking tape style! 🛖🛖

25.03.24 This afternoon, we decided to bring an Anglo-Saxon museum experience to Holly Hill! We investigated real artefacts, and even got to try some of them on too!

21.03.24 In Maths, we’ve been investigating angles in a triangle and angles on a straight line. 🔺🔺🔺

18.03.24 Our adults in booster introduced us to measuring angles with a protractor, and we’ve been continuing in class!

15.03.24 Another week, another set of brilliant heroes 🌟🌟

15.03.24 What an absolute treat Y6 had today! The whole of Year 6 joined forces for British Science Week 2024, and had a special visitor! Mrs Warsop came to teach us all about Artificial Intelligence today, and taught us all about what it is and how it is used. We even got to play noughts and crosses against her, as she took on the role of AI - spoiler, we didn’t win!! Then, in the afternoon, we took part in a live Q&A about AI.

The experts even answered our question, ‘Can technology be dangerous?’

08.03.24 Some more wonderful heroes 🦸‍♀️ 🤩

08.03.24 Sculpting Anglo-Saxon brooches out of clay. We tried to use straight lines, interlace, geometric patterns and have a central focal point. I think they look pretty amazing! 🖌️👩‍🎨🧑‍🎨

Can you spot the Anglo-Saxon design features?

06.03.24 World Book Day - Swan pulled it out the bag with their fabulous costumes! 📕📚📖

Some of our fabulous entries for Mrs Watson’s competition to be next year’s reading diary front cover! I’m biased, but I think one of us must be a winner this year! 🤞🏻 🤞🏻

We’ve loved playing ‘Game of Quotes’ this morning with our books - ask us about the game! 🤪

05.03.24 Some incredible examples of writing from today’s lesson - Headteacher sticker worthy!! 🤩🤩 Everybody did amazingly well and I can’t wait to read their final paragraphs tomorrow. 🌟

01.03.24 It’s only right to have wonderful writing heroes this week! 🖊️ ✏️ 🌟

01.03.24 Putting yesterday’s ideas on paper and writing our first battle scene paragraph. We engaged all of Beowulf’s senses and told about what it was like to wait for the monster Grendel to arrive for battle. 👹

29.02.24 If there’s one thing Swans love, it’s time for a chat! Luckily for us, we had lots of time for this as today’s English lesson was all about orally rehearsing our ideas for a battle scene narrative between Grendel and Beowulf. Today’s challenge was to find a group of 3, with 2 speakers and 1 listener. The speakers shared ideas, and the listener took them all in then picked their favourite to share with the class. What amazing ideas they all shared! 💡

29.02.24 I love the buzz of conversation in the classroom when we’re all excited about learning. Who wouldn’t be excited to write a battle scene between a hideous monster and a heroic prince?!

28.02.24 In SPAG, we’ve been working on expanded noun phrases. We love the noun phrase song - especially the line ‘a red tomato from Tesco Express’ 😜 We had fun singing along to this - these songs are an incredible way to help us to remember a lot of tricky information. 🧠

21.02.24 & 24.02.24 We’ve started our Art topic on Anglo-Saxon art and craft, and what a wonderful start we’ve made! We’ve been investigating key design features of Anglo-Saxon art and have started to design our own brooch to craft using clay. 🖌️👩‍🎨🧑‍🎨

One of many fabulous sketch books! ✏️
