Holly Hill Primary and Nursery School

Autumn 2

Thursday 15th December

We began work on two secret projects this morning! We can’t say too much but we do know you’ll love the final products which we’ll be taking home in the next few days when they’re finished.

Tuesday 13th December

The Pantomime came to school today! It was amazing! We all loved watching the story of Cinderella and how she met her Prince Charming, even if the Ugly Step Sisters were really mean!

Thursday 8th December

Today we worked together to decorate the class Christmas tree. As you can see, we ended up decorating more than just the Christmas tree but we all had a great time and worked really well together too!

It’s been a very busy day in The Nest today!

First thing this morning we were decorating gingerbread men, which all looked fantastic when they were finished! From there we went straight over to reception to help decorate the tree in the lobby for everyone to see.

If that wasn’t enough, this afternoon we then made Christingles and took part in a Christingle service in the hall with some of the other children.

All in all, it’s been a very enjoyable day!

Monday 28th November

We started our new book this morning called “Halibut Jackson”. We were all wanting to read more with the introduction of the main character, Halibut Jackson, a man that wears clothes designed to blend into his surroundings because he doesn’t want to be noticed.

Friday 26th November

The children were writing rhetorical questions today. This was in preparation for their leaflet on how to manage our feelings better to help a character from our current book “I am Henry Finch”.

Thursday 24th November

This morning, as part of our ongoing Social Communication lessons, the children were thinking about things that had gone well this week and things that hadn’t gone well recently. The children were all very reflective in this lesson and gave some very thoughtful answers.

Tuesday 22nd November

With the upcoming start of Advent, the children of The Nest learnt all about what Advent is and why Christians celebrate this time. The children were all very interested and asked some lovely questions too.

Friday 18th November

This morning, the children were practising their reading and comprehension skills by reading different thoughts and sorting them based on how they feel about those thoughts. As you can see they all did fantastically at this and worked together to discuss where they thought they should go.

Thursday 17th November

The children have been carrying on with their work in Science on Animals including humans. Today the children were making comparisons between the events that take place at different points in the human life cycle.

Monday 14th November

Today, we were creating a timeline of aeroplanes starting with the first flight by the Wright brothers. The children researched this on iPads and even looked to see what planes might look like in the future too!

Friday 11th November

Today we concluded our work on our original stories by writing them up using the laptops and computers. The children all did great at this and all of their stories are lovely to read.

Wednesday 9th November

This morning, the children began work on drafting their own original story based on the story we have been reading over the last two weeks. The children loved this as they were given free rein of the story as long as the story included making someone “Look up”.

Monday 6th November

This afternoon, some of the children continued their intervention of “Bucket time”. As you can see the children all got to explore some exciting objects today, such as as feathers.

Thursday 3rd November

We started our new Science topic for this half term “Animals, including humans”. Today, we started off by matching the infant animal to the adult. As you can see the children did really well with this and enjoyed this activity.

Monday 31st October

We started our new book this half term. We really enjoyed our first look at the book and really wanted to know how it was linked to space. We’ve really enjoyed the “Did you know” facts that have appeared throughout the book about space travel and meteor showers.
