Spring 1

Happy New Year!

We are looking forward to another busy term in school with

our topic this half term of

'How to Save the Human Race'

Please see our Knowledge Organiser below for details of our learning this half term.  Our text in English is a Year 5 and 6 favourite - Boy in the Tower.  In Science we will be learning about Earth and Space.  Our topic for Design Technology will see the children developing their sewing skills and in Computing we will be programming and working with micro-bits.  Alongside the usual topics this half term all the children will be swimming twice a week and Year 5 will be starting the Great Project.

Owl Class will be swimming on Mondays and Thursdays from now until half term.

Today Owl class used real micro-bits and programmed them to be step counters. The children worked in pairs to write their code, program and de-bug in order for their micro- bits to work as required.

See micro-bits on shoe! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Thursday 9th February. Our nearly finished patchwork designs

Thursday 8th February. Programming the micro-bits on the lap-tops. We made the micro- bits play music, give messages and perform light sequences. Thank you to Arlo and Maddox who were our micro-bit experts and were loving sharing their skills.

Friday 2nd February

BEST SCHOOL EVER!

Where else would you get to skateboard on a Friday afternoon? Some children were apprehensive before they got on their skateboard but were soon loving every minute. This looked like so much ๐Ÿคฉ fun!

Well done today to the Year 5โ€™s who have completed The Great Project.

Wednesday 31st January

The children are loving their sewing project this half term. After practising basic stitches they are making their own patchwork design. We have some very creative people in Owl class who are great at sewing….. and maybe some who might need a little more practice๐Ÿ˜ I’m happy to say that everyone has really persevered and worked hard to improve their skills.

Friday 26th January. Year 5 enjoying their Great Project. They completed their session today creating a poster to promote โ€˜Healthy Relationshipsโ€™

Monday 22nd January

The Year 5s and 6s had a lovely day in Nottingham today at the Gallery of Justice Museum. The children got to re-live crime and punishment in the past. Owl class started their day in the main museum. In small groups they explored one of the main punishment exhibits before reporting back to the class. They then visited the cells and the dungeon where the jailer was waiting for them. We then went to the Matron to learn about all the jobs that would be done by the prisoners.
In the afternoon we visited the courtroom. Some of the children took on roles of the characters and we re-enacted a trial. Well done to all our actors who did a fabulous job of bringing our learning to life.

Owl Class….tell your adult all about your day ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜

Lots of photos to follow.

Crime and Punishment Workshop

Meeting the โ€˜not so friendlyโ€™ Jailer

Exploring the final part of the museum

Friday 19th January. Today we took part in an Earth and Space live lesson. The children loved the live questions and they were able to post their answers along with the many other schools that took part.

Friday 12th January. Today we started our DT and our Textiles unit. We explored the world of designer dress and learnt about how designers add detail to their outfits. We then attempted the running and back stitch. Cross stitch will follow ๐Ÿ˜

Today the Year 5s started a 6 week block of lessons called โ€˜The Great Projectโ€™ These lessons are aimed at letting the children explore what healthy and trusting relationships look like. The children learn about unhealthy relationships and learn about what they can do in these situations.
