Here is our knowledge organiser for this half term -

WEEK ONE 1️⃣

In RE we have been creating Star of David's!

In English we have been reading 'The Magic Paintbrush'. Today we acted out sections of the story and the children performed them to the class.

DT - structures! Today we have been talking about different structures and their materials. We have spoken about their uses and what makes them strong. We recognised some 3D shapes in our structures too! We even had a go at building our own bridges and had a look outside at our playground structures.

Week Two 2️⃣

Year 1 children have been making repeating patterns with different materials!

In DT we made different types of structures! We made tubes, walls, slots and hinges. Then we even had a go at making our own structures testing the skills we learnt during the lesson.

Week Three 3️⃣

Look at these super star year 1 children practising their 2 times tables!! 🤩

DT - building on our knowledge of structures. We have been talking about foundations and layering today! We have had a particular focus on bridges.

Week Four 4️⃣

We have been looking at non-chronological reports. On Monday the children labelled different sections of the report and now we are beginning to write our own chronological reports all about Beijing 🇨🇳

OUR CHINESE BANQUET! We have tried and tested some Chinese food today and all of the children had a go at using chop sticks. We absolutely loved our banquet 🤩🇨🇳

We made our Chinese wraps today! First we designed them and decided on ingredients that we would use. Then we decided what tools we would need and drew this on a diagram. The children then went ahead and made their wraps using different ingredients and cutting methods. It was so tricky to fold the wrap because it was sticky, but we loved the challenge!! Most of the children really enjoyed their wraps and rated our overall experience as ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Wrap tasting time!

Week Five 5️⃣

Our end product for Geography this half term! We have been using hexagons to link all our previously learning together. Children could decide on how to organise their hexagons as long as they could explain and reason why they linked together.

We’ve had a busy day designing, building and evaluating our bridges! The children collaborated and made bridges that were able to go over some water. Well done Wrens!!

What a wonderful afternoon celebrating Chinese New Year! We had a carousel of activities in all 3 KS1 classrooms and the children absolutely loved it. In Wrens we had Chinese New Year sign painting, colouring and word searches. In Woodies the children were able to make concertina dragons and in Puffins the children had a go at making spiral dragons🐉🇨🇳🐲
