At Holly Hill Primary School we believe in a concrete, pictorial and abstract approach to Maths. This means that you will often find our pupils engaging in practical maths activities using a variety of resources and tools to develop their mathematical understanding and problem solving.
Here we have children in Year 6 exploring 3d shapes practically before working with their properties.
Year 5 worked well with partners to use the coin method- using known multiplication facts to solve more difficult problems
Here are Year 4 using counters to support them when multiplying and dividing.
Year 3 had fun learning about angles and degrees of turn outside.
Our children in Year 2 learnt about dividing through grouping and sharing counters.
Year 1/2 using marshmallows and spaghetti to make 2d and 3d shapes. They had to work out how many vertices and how many edges and ensure that they spaghetti was at of the correct length/
In F2 the children had fun learning about different shapes and going on a shape hunt using their magnifying glasses!
In F2 the children had lots of fun comparing amounts. They linked this to their topic and used lots of yummy fruits!
F1 use real life objects and resources to support with their counting and number recognition.
Our whole school is a learning environment! Here we have Nursery looking for numbers and shapes in the environment. They found lots of shapes and numbers on buildings, the floor, their bodies and even on the trees and plants!
