Summer 1

World War 2 (part 2)

26.05.23 In our final ukulele lesson today, we ended with a challenge, which was playing the D DU U DU strumming pattern, and I was blown away by how amazing we all sounded! We all practised this and tried so hard, as it’s much harder than it looks! When I asked who wanted to be filmed playing, I was even happier to see how many people felt confident enough to say yes!

26.05.23 We’ve been learning some new strumming patterns. We really enjoyed this one and didn’t find it too tricky after a little practise!

22.05.23 We learnt the G chord today, which we found difficult at first! A G chord needs 3 fingers placed in a stretched position, but we got there in the end!

We even managed to speed the video up and progress between 4 chords quickly!

We even managed a particularly difficult part of the song, where we had to move between 4 chords in quick succession. Some of even tried a fifth chord - D7!

19.05.23 Well done to our super swan heroes this week 🦢

19.05.23 Today we learnt that once ice reaches 50m in thickness, it’s known as a glacier. We headed outside and made a line which was 50m long to help us visualise just how thick glaciers are. ❄️🧊

17.05.23 We got the ukuleles back out this afternoon and learnt our first song! We were practising chord progression, using the chords C and Am 🎵🎶

16.05.23 In History, we looked at ‘Kristallnacht’, or ‘The night of broken glass’. We learnt about how Jewish homes, businesses and synagogues were destroyed and listened to a survivor talk about their experiences of hiding during Kristallnacht. We wrote a poem to reflect on what their experience might have been like.

04.05.23 My smart cookies deserved cookies after an amazing week of revision!

03.05.23 Who needs to sit and answer questions when your teacher can hide them around the room and you hunt them down?!

27.04.23 We had our first ukulele lesson today. We revised how to hold the ukulele and playing the C chord, then tried to play the chord in time with the steady beat of a metronome.

26.04.23 We love revision games! In ‘bring me a...’ the children have to bring me the answer to a question in a certain way. The final question below saw them bring me a prime number greater than 5, delivered in their best slow motion walk!

25.04.23 We teamed up in new partners today and worked amazingly well together. We revised fractions, decimals and percentages, then completed some arithmetic questions.

20.04.23 Things got practical in Maths today, as we built nets of 3-D shapes. We were struggling to visualise how a net could be built to make a 3-D shape, but a little bit of cutting and sticking made things a lot clearer!

19.04.23 What a treat we had today! Ivy’s grandad collects WW2 memorabilia, and she kindly wanted to share some of the artefacts with us. Our favourite, along with lots of pictures of Ivy’s great-grandad that we enjoyed passing around, was this silk escape map.
