In this half term, our topic is......

This half term's spellings:

20.10.23 We applied our learning about linkages to help us create a moving representative of the water cycle. We discussed which types of movement would fit that process in the cycle to decide which type of linkage to use.

20.10.23 In Guided Reading, we looked at a poem and considered how the author’s punctuation and word choice gives us clues as to how he would have intended it to be read with expression.

19.10.23 We are coming to the end of our topic on the water cycle- I’m going to miss singing this song most days!

19.10.23 In English, we wrote a guide for ‘How To Take Care Of A Lost Thing’. It was fabulous so hear the work being read with such confidence and pride! 🤩

13.10.23 BLACK EXCELLENCE DAY! We started with guided reading, looking at the life of Marcus Rashford, from his humble roots, to his phenomenal success!

13.10.23 BLACK EXCELLENCE DAY! We then had a music lesson, where we looked at the achievements of Dr Shirley Thompson. She was the first female in Europe to compose and conduct a symphony in 40 years! We listened to one of her concertos she had written all about football!

13.10.23 BLACK EXCELLENCE DAY! In English, we looked at some poems by Benjamin Zephaniah and then used one of his poems as a model to write our own verses ✏️

12.10.23 In English, we finally got to the part in our class book where the lost thing’s utopia was revealed! Falcon were absolutely fascinated by Shaun Tan’s illustration and making connections to different parts of the story.

12.10.23 Today was our third Be Internet Legends assembly. This one focused on our wellbeing while online and provided us with some very important safety tips!

06.10.23 In Maths, we worked on rounding to the nearest 1000 and used number lines to help us identify the previous and next multiple.

06.10.23 We smashed rounding to 1000, so we learnt a song that would help us when rounding any number! WE WILL ROUND YOU! 🎸

05.10.23 In D.T. we made a different lever and reviewed the way that the levers we had made so far used different inputs and outputs.

05.10.23 In English, Falcon were super independent and used thesauruses to find better versions of their descriptive language.

03.10.23 We had a great afternoon investigating temperatures that different materials melt. Thank you to Julian for being my photographer for the afternoon. 📸

02.10.23 creating stars to help us understand the story of Abraham and Sarah in RE 🌟 🌟

29.09.23 In Geography, we looked at how erosion can cause meanders and waterfalls. We drew diagrams to show how water erodes soft rock and leaves an overhang of harder rock.

29.09.23 In English, we created our own adverts based on one for ‘The Department for Odds and Ends’ in our text The Lost Thing.

28.09.23 In French, we practised greeting each other. Mrs Cordon is super impressed with our French accents!

26.09.23 Making and eating unleavened bread for RE. We discussed the significance of this bread for Jewish people. 🍞

26.09.23 Reading though our work to edit and improve ourselves. ✏️

25.09.23 We practise our times tables every day, but on Mondays we have our times table test , so we snuck in some more practise this afternoon on our flash cards. 🧮

22.09.23 In D.T. we explored levers and linkages further by making a working example of where a linear input (pulling in a straight line) results in a reciprocating output (the jaws move together).

21.09.23 In Geography, we learnt the different parts of a river and have recorded this helpful reminder to look back on! 🌊

After memorising the parts of a river, we made a model to label with our new knowledge! I must say, Falcon Class really do work well as a team!

21.09.23 Today we took part in a nationwide virtual assembly hosted by Google Internet Legends! We learnt about the 5 pillars of internet safety, made the ‘Internet Legend Pledge’ and got a couple of shout outs!

18.09.23 In English we used rhetorical questions to compose a prequel to The Lost Thing. The whole class were very successful and produced some very effective pieces. Here is just one example....

15.09.23 In Design Technoloy today, we explored different books with moving parts and discussed what types of motion were being used.

15.09.23 Today we wrote a description of ‘The Lost Thing’. We used vocabulary and similes from earlier in the week to make our writing extra effective! 🤩

14.09.23 In Geography, we used the atlases to locate the major rivers in the UK. We also matched maps to aerial photographs of some major rivers. We are Geography Geniuses 🤓

14.09.23 To help practise our times tables, we have been singing along to some songs to get the facts stuck in our heads! (We may have even had a little boogie too 🕺)

13.09.23 A great start to Power Maths this year with some great representing and partitioning of numbers to 1000. 🧮

12.09.23 Falcon’s working hard this week with handwriting and grammar 📝

11.09.23 This morning we started our English text, The Lost Thing. We listened to some of the animation music and we made inferences and predictions.

08.09.23 STEM WOW DAY! Today, Falcon class took part in a carousel of activities linked to our Science topic of states of matter. In session 1, Falcon experimented with different methods to try and melt their ice cube the fastest: shaking it, blowing on it, chipping at it, squeezing, wrapping and adding salt!

08.09.23- STEM WOW DAY, session 2. In Kingfisher classroom, Falcon focussed on gas and were challenged to make the balloon travel along the string. 
We found that smaller balloons travelled faster. 🎈

08.09.23- STEM WOW DAY, SESSION 3. Falcon focussed on solids with Miss Ward in Swallow class and were challenged to build a bridge using paper, straws and lollipop sticks. Great results Falcon!

08.09.23 For our Art enhancement to the topic, we have looked at works by Hokusai and worked on a study of his piece ‘ The Great Wave Off Kanagawa’. Finished products will be coming soon!

06.09.24 For the start of our first day, we labelled each place with a Lego brick. These were a fantastic way to demonstrate that as a class we can all come together and make a strong, awesome team!
