Things to know:
- First and foremost, the children are under no pressure from school. The children know that it's an important life skill to always try our best, and that's what we're doing with these tests, but they do not need to be stressed or worry about anything at all. We're going to try our best, and that's all we can do! Our revision has been as active and engaging as possible (sweets have helped with this!) and will continue to be so these next 2 weeks.
In the interest of protecting the well-being of the children, there has been no homework these past few weeks to ensure children are having enough time to wind down at home after busy revision days at school. Today, a spelling booklet has been sent home with children. This booklet is optional and does not need to be handed in: rest and not feeling under pressure is my priority, but I know that some children have been asking for bits to do at home. The SATs spelling test is on Monday and is 20 random words, so the more practise the children can do they more confident they will hopefully feel.
The actual week itself:
- Doors will be open at 8:30am to give us extra time to settle down, have bagels and feel as calm as possible.
- The first tests start at 9am. Testing continues all morning. It is more important than ever that children arrive on time, as we are bound by DfE guidelines to stick to a tight schedule.
- There are no tests in the afternoons. In the afternoon, we will do a little bit of prep for the next day's test, but will also have extra time to play and unwind after the morning.
- Monday: Grammar and Spelling papers
- Tuesday: Reading paper
- Wednesday: Maths paper 1 Arithmetic and Maths paper 2 Reasoning
- Thursday: Maths paper 3 Reasoning and treat afternoon to celebrate finishing!
- Friday: Treat day! Chips from the chippy at the park!
Children will come home on Friday with a personalised timetable, so that they can show you exactly when they will sit each paper, which room they will be in and with which adults. It will also tell them if they are entitled to any extra time.
Everybody has worked incredibly hard so far and I couldn't be prouder.
