Year 3 and 4 Welcome Meeting

Welcome Back to School

Welcome back to Holly Hill after a wonderful Summer break. I do hope you all had a fun time over the holidays and are ready for lots of exciting learning in Dove Class. My name is Ms Webb and I am Dove Class teacher. I'm so excited to be starting a new school year with you all. The Year 3/4 team are myself, Mrs Ward in Kingfisher and Miss Ward in Swallow. Our wonderful teaching assistants on our corridor are Mr Close, Mrs Beavon and Mrs Ward. We can't wait to begin our learning journey together.

PE is on a Monday afternoon and Wednesday morning. Please can your child have a full PE kit in school, especially warm clothes as they do go outside and use our wonderful grounds for their PE lesson at every opportunity. Sometimes, there will be PE or other activities during the term where they will need their PE kit, so please can your child have their PE kit in school every day.

Earrings will need to be removed, either in school where they should have somewhere safe to put them (earring box kept in PE bag) or before the school day.

Many thanks.

We love to read at Holly Hill and encourage children to as much as they can, at home and at school. Reading opens doors to so many opportunities and helps them to become independent learners as reading is a skill needed in most lessons. Please support your child at home with their reading. It is very helpful if your child has their reading book and diary in school every day please.

Your child has spellings for the term in their reading diary. They will be tested on these every Friday and their result will be written in their reading diary for that week. Please talk about the meaning of words and encourage your child to verbally say a sentence using the spelling they are practising as it puts the word into context.

In Year 3, children are expected to know the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 times table. They have been learning 2, 5 and 10 in Year 2 so this year we will be learning the 3, 4 and 8 times tables. These can be found at the back of their reading diary. Children will be tested every Friday on their tables so any support you can give your child to learn them would be fantastic. They will also have times tables mixed in some tests to practise for the online test we do in school at the end of each term.

Click here to practise times tables using the online test. Click Play Game, Adjust Difficulty, then deselect 6,7,9,11 and 12 times tables.

Your child has their TT Rockstars information at the back of their reading diary.

Thank you so much for your continued support, it is very much appreciated.
