Holly Hill Primary and Nursery School

Spring 2

This half term we will be learning about...

World War Two (part 1) Knowledge Organiser

Spring 2 spellings

31.03.23 Here are the winning entries in our Easter competition! Falcon entrants walked away with vouchers for family entry to the National Ice Centre and Laser Quest!

30.03.23 The 3D printing is finished! They’re not all perfect, but it was a good learning experience for the Falcons about the importance of accuracy in manufacturing designs.

29.03.23 The 3D printer is up and running! It would take too long to print each of our individual air raid shelters from TinkerCAD, so instead we will be printing one of our designs from earlier in the unit: our name keyrings! It really was fascinating watching the printer at work.

24.03.23 This week heroes are all of Falcon Class for the wonderful and mature way they handled having to relocate to the infant hall. They took everything in their stride and have really made me proud! 🥰 Special shout out this week go to, Sophie, who has been writing and sharing some amazing poetry; Jack, who has been more focussed and completing his Science work like a champ; Jimmy, who has been an absolute whizz at pie charts and finally Holly, who after a week of learning about pie charts actually went home and baked one for us!! Being a Falcon this week has been truly fabulous!

22.03.23 In Science, Falcons investigated how their electrical circuits were affected when adding a range of components.

17.03.23 With the builders moved in to our classroom, we decamped to the infant hall. Learning continued as normal with Falcon class coaching each other when using TinkerCAD to design their own air raid shelters.

14.03.23 As part of British Science Week, we took part in a live zoom with school across the country hosted by Adastral Park. The topic was A.I. And some of our questions were answered by people who actually work with A.I. for a living!

14.03.23 Inspired by the zoom session, we then made our own V.R. Headsets that can be used with a phone and 360 degree videos.

13.03.23 In Maths, we have begun to look at Volume, so we used cubes to see how many different cuboids we could make for a given volume.

09.03.23 When we arrived at school this morning, there was SNOW!! ☃️❄️ Year Six have worked their socks off in recent weeks and they deserved the chance to seize the day and play like children!

07.03.23 To prove that the area of a triangle is half the area of a rectangle, we cut up rectangles and arranged to pieces to make two identical triangles.

06.03.23 In revision today, we drew cute animals to help us practise finding percentages of numbers 🐙

02.03.23 📘📙WORLD BOOK DAY!!📕📗 Our decorated shirts looked amazing!

28.02.23 In Design Technology we looked at how different shapes better support and reinforce structure. We investigated with thickness of layers on a bridge and then looked at which 3-D shape would be strongest: cuboid, triangular prism or cylinder. We found the cylinder to be best and reasoned that this could be because, without vertices, it has no weak/pressure points with weight evenly distributed around the curve shape. 🛢

27.02.23 To start a week of performing and composing poetry, we began by looking at poems by (friend of Holly Hill) Paul Cookson. Below you can see us performing his poem ‘The Fantastically Fabulous Footy Match Poem’ . We then went on to write our own poems based on another Cookson favourite.

24.02.23 Falcon class loved using The Simpsons as a stimulus for writing sentences in a range of tenses during today’s S.P.A.G. lesson. 👧👦

23.03.23 We finished off our Art project on Islamic design by creating an archway which used ModRoc to give it 3D relief elements.

22.02.23 We are consolidating our knowledge of percentages by doing a quick match up of equivalents and methods at the start of each lesson. Some of us are getting so good, we are timing ourselves!

21.02.23 To get us fired up about poetry ahead of World Book Week, we had an assembly by poet Paul Cookson. It was so much fun joining in with his performances and not like a normal assembly at all!

21.03.23 We were so inspired by Paul Cookson’s assembly we immediately went back to class and in the 15 minutes before break wrote poems about whatever we liked!

20.02.23 The first day back after half term and Falcon continued their work on percentages... not before singing the percentages song on YouTube!🎤🎶
