Welcome to Year 5 Owl Class Page
A very big Welcome to you all. I am Mrs Balchin, Owl class teacher and this year Owl will be supported by Mrs Rawson and Miss Mills. We very much look forward to working with your children in what will be an exciting year ahead.
At the top of this page you will see icons dedicated to each half term. When you click on theses you will be able to see regular updates about what we've been up to, lots of photographs of our learning and examples of children's work too.
Please get in touch if I can help you in any way.
Useful Information
Reading
As a school we expect that the children read 5 times a week. In Year 5 they can fill in their own diaries if they wish. If you can still hear your child read and look at their diary on a regular basis that would be beneficial. There will be many opportunities for the children to read on a daily basis. We have guided reading sessions daily and the children will also have some quiet reading time where they will read their reading book or be able to read a book from the book corner for pleasure. Children needing extra practise with their reading will read 1:1 with an adult and if required they will also be able to access some phonics work too. They will also be practising their reading in our English lessons daily and in other curriculum subjects throughout the week.
Homework
Homework throughout school is focussed on Reading, Spelling practise and learning Times Tables. The children have access to Mathletics and TTRockstars which can be used to support learning in Maths.
PE
PE will be on a Monday morning and children will need their PE kit on this day. Whenever we can PE will be outside so please provide appropriate PE clothing and footwear so that the children will be comfortable and able to take part in their lesson. Earings must be removed prior to a lesson for health and safety reasons.
And here they are……. Our wonderful Owls this year.
