Tour of Britain - Wednesday 6th September
We are all very excited about the Tour of Britain passing through Selston on Wednesday. There will be a community picnic on the park opposite The White Lion starting from 10.30am and the bikes are expected to pass by from 11.10am onwards. The staff from school will be walking up to join in the fun as part of our INSET day and we look forward to seeing lots of your there! Also look out for the bikes the children decorated on transition day lining the route!
As some of you may be aware, we have a child who is currently ill in hospital with meningitis. He is responding well to treatment and we hope to see him back to full health soon.
We have been in close contact with the Health Protection Agency since we learnt about the possibility yesterday. They are an expert body of health professionals who deal with all issues relating to such illnesses, and we have followed their advice and procedures.
The letter which they have asked us to release today explains about the things to be aware of, and the level of risk which the general population is at. It is worth reinforcing the message that many of us carry the bacteria responsible for the illness all the time, but it is only in a small number of cases that this causes us any harm.
Should the advice from the Health Protection agency alter, we will let you know immediately. In the meantime, please follow the advice in the letter.
Holly Hill's Annual Open Evening
On Wednesday 22nd June between 6.00 and 8.00pm we will once again be inviting members of the community to look around our wonderful school. You may be a past pupil who wants a trip down memory lane, the parent of a child who may come to us, or just a member of the community who wants to have a look at the school. Staff will be on hand to chat, and direct you around the buildings. Last year's event was very popular, with lots of visitors commenting that they didn't know there was such a hidden gem in the midst of their community.
We hope that you will be able to join us!
We have two parent governor vacancies on the governing body and are looking for people to join us.
Governors help to run the school, ensuring that the children get the best education, by impacting on the vision and ethos of the school, holding the school to account for pupil outcomes and ensuring that the money we receive is well spent.
Parent governors bring a vital perspective to what we do as we strive to get better and better on our journey to outstanding.
If you feel that it is something you would like to be involved with, call the school, or drop in for a chat. Alternatively, our chair of governors would be more than happy to answer your questions.
Another good source of information is the National Governors' Association - find out more at http://www.nga.org.uk/Be-a-Governor.aspx
On Wednesday 24th June we will be holding our first ever community open evening. We want to show off our school to peolpe in the community who wouldn't normally visit us - past pupils, people new to the area, or people who are just interested in looking around. There will be a chance to look around the classrooms where the children's work will be on display, look at a display of photographs from years gone by and talk to the teachers and governors. Friends of Holly Hill, our PTA, will also be serving refreshments.
School will be open from 6.00-8.00, so we hope we will see you there!
