This is where you will find photos of what we have been doing throughout the day. It is a chance to see what we have been learning! We hope that you love seeing everything that we get up to! Please keep checking for any updates too.
Important information:
- P.E will be on a Monday and Wednesday, but please make sure that the children keep their P.E kits in school all week just in case we get time to do anymore.
- Spellings will be given out every Friday and then tested the following Friday.
- Please use reading diaries to pass on any messages to Mrs Fisher but for urgent messages please contact the school office. I will check diaries on a Monday.
- Children are expected to read 5 times a week at home, practise their spellings and practise their times tables. Times tables can be practise by using TTRockstars – children’s logins are stuck in the back of the reading diaries.
In our final half-term, we are going to be learning about the Ancient Greeks. We are going to be learning about different aspects of Ancient Greece: their life, the birth of the Olympic Sports and their influence on Western culture today.
A picture book of Jesse Owens: We are reading an autobiography of J.C (Jesse) Owens, who competed in the Olympics during the time of Nazi Germany. He set world records for running and jumping, despite the obstacles that he faced. 🏅 🏃🏿♂️ 🥇

Continuing the Stone Age topic using the Local History as a focus
Summer 1 2022
Our focus subjects are History, DT and Science.
We will learn about our local history using primary and secondary sources. We will then use this knowledge to research a local area which has been heavily formed by the Stone Age - Cresswell Crags. We shall research the area before taking day trip there to find out what it has to offer. We shall also include Science to fid out about animals and their habitats in Selston and surrounding area. In DT we will learn about sewing, and have a go at our very own 'Hunter-Gatherer bag'.
In English we will be reading 'The Secrets of Stonehenge' and in guided reading we will be reading the very exciting book 'Boom'.
Wednesday 18th May - learning to throw the javelin today in PE, not easy with the wind on our field but still great fun.
Wednesday 18th May - today we all had a go at sewing, we are getting better, but we still need lots more practise! 🧵 🪡
Tuesday 17th May - while the year 4s were away on their trip, year 3s started to practise their sewing skills. We are all ready to start our real hunter gatherer bags tomorrow. 🧵 🪡
Friday 13th May - today we wrote up our fact files about Creswell Crags. We included pictures and lots of details about the caves.
Thursday 12th May - today we started to research Cresswell Crags, we are going to be writing a non-fiction text about it before we go next week.
Tuesday 10th May - when we got back to school we wrote down facts that we had found out about our visit. ⛪️
Tuesday 10th May - we had a lovely walk to see St Helen’s church this morning. We had a wonderful talk about the history of the church and were able to explore afterwards. ⛪️
Friday 6th May - today we have been writing an advert for our ‘Secrets of Stonehenge’ book in a horrible histories style. We look forward to next week when we can have a go at acting them out!
Thursday 5th May - we are enjoying our new text in Reading this week - ‘Boom!’ 💥
Wednesday 4th May - in science today we thought about the positive and negatives effects that humans have on the environment. We had a great discussion. 🌍
Tuesday 3rd May - today we had a go at writing in the ‘Present Perfect Tense’ - with the help of the Anchor Grammar song 🎶
Thursday 28th April - today we were doing some research ready to start out DT project. We will be making a Hunter-Gatherer bag. 💼
Thursday 28th April - today we used our class text to create a conversation. We remembered the inverted song, this helped us a lot. 🎶
Tuesday 26th April - today White Post Farm came to visit. We loved looking at and holing the animals. 🐁 🐇 🐍 🦎
Monday 25th April - great maths work to start the week from the year 3s. 🧮
Friday 22nd April - this afternoon in JIGSAW we discussed roles of men and women and whether it mattered who did what. A very interesting Conversation. 🤔
Wednesday 20th April - a great start to our PE lessons with Miss Bateman - athletics. 🏃♀️ 🏃♂️
What we are going to be learning this half term...
Spring 2 2022
The theme for our topic this half term is... 'Savage Stone Age'.
Our focus subjects are History, Geography and Science.
We will learn about how Prehistoric times moved from the Stone Age to the Iron Age to the Bronze Age. This will also include Physical Geography and learn about settlements and land use.
In Science we will learn about Living things and their Habitats.
In English we will be reading three lovely books; Pebble in my pocket, Stone Age boy and Little Nose.
Friday 1st April - Swallow class have really enjoyed writing their own Stone Age story. Today we wrote all the parts of the story together. Some fantastic stories!! ✍️
Thursday 31st March - a great geography lesson studying ordinance survey maps. 🗺
Wednesday 30th March - our class text this term is ‘Boy at the back of the Class’. A pomegranate features in the story. Mrs Fisher bought us a pomegranate to look at and try. 😋
Tuesday 29th March - well done to the Swallows that took part in the xc running this afternoon 👍
Wednesday 23rd March - some tricky maths this week but Swallows are being resilient! 💪 🧮
Tuesday 22nd March - some of the class were inspired by our Skara Brae lesson to make their own Stone Age house on the field. 🛖
Friday 18th March - lovely to see so much red in the class room today in support of Comic Relief. ♥️🎈🔴🍎🎸🅱️🛑
Wednesday 16th March - what a damp horrible day to do our Science lesson outside! But we certainly enjoyed ourselves! We found lots of mini beasts and recorded where we had found them. We can now record our findings into our books. 🐞🕷🐜
Monday 14th March - today we started our new book ‘Stone Age Boy’ we wrote a prediction of what we thought was going to happen. 🤔 💭
Wednesday 10th March - we learnt about the significance of cave paintings today. Swallows loved having a go 🎨 🖼
Monday 7th March - what a great morning Swallow class have had. We had a visit from anchor education, ‘Ed’ taught us some very exciting grammar through singing and drama. 🎶

We will be learning about ‘What is wonderful about Stevie Wonder?’ through our main subjects this half term - Music, computing and science. We will look at the history of music through Stevie Wonder’s life and using science as a topic to learn all about sound.

Thursday 27th January - a great start this week to our multiplication and division unit in maths.
Wednesday 26th January - during our sound investigations this afternoon we used string telephones to find out more about vibrations.
Tuesday 25th January - today we continued with our scratch project. The different sprites moved when we used different start buttons. We also had a go with sounds.

Thursday 20th January - finding facts about Stevie Wonder’s car crash so that we can write some very informative newspaper reports. 🗞
Wednesday 19th January - today was a day of exploring vibrations to make sound. We used tuning forks and put them into water, we plucked elastic bands on empty pots, we vibrated our rulers off the edge of the table and we made rice jump as we banged the drum. 🥁 🍚 💦 📏
Monday 17th January - Swallow class are trying really hard with their handwriting everyday. Here we are practising this morning. 🖊
