Monday 27th June 2022 - We started the week with WOW Write, writing an innovated Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch story.

In Maths the children have been working on Division.

Monday 20th June 2022 - Phonics

In PE today the children had the chance to practice a few races ready for Sports Day on Thursday

We have started the Little Wandle phonics programme and WOW we have been learning some tricky spellings! The children have been amazing reading these words this week. The red words are tricky words which can not be completely sounded out.

Wk beg 6th June 2022 - This week Puffin Class have completed their Phonics Screening Check and I am so proud of the effort every single child has put into phonics during this year. They have totally blown me away! We will be letting you know how your child got on shortly.

Celebrating finishing our Phonics Screening Checks with a chocolate chip cookie.

This week in Maths the children have been learning about Multiplication, counting, making and adding equal groups as well as practising our 2,5 and 10 times tables.

This week Puffin Class started our new Little Wandle reading groups. The children were very excited to start reading all our brand new books. Children not reading with an adult are working independently on comprehension and phonics tasks.

Learning breaks with a bit of yoga this week.

We are ready for our JUBILEE DAY tomorrow

Thursday 26th May 2022 - Today the children did pastel drawings of the Queen.

Wed 25th May. Saint Saens composed Carnival of The Animals. We moved like the animals whilst listening to the music. Listened to the instruments we could hear and then represented how the music sounded through images. Then composed our own music on the laptops.

Wednesday 25th May 2022 - Today we started with phonics, revisiting the OW digraph

The children have also used sketching pencils to draw The Queen.

Tuesday 24th May 2022 - Today in Maths the children were investigating Weight.

Monday 23rd May 2022 - This afternoon the children began our whole school Jubilee Art Project. Each year group has been given a decade of the Queen's reign. We have the 1960s so have looked at pictures of her in this era. Today we have attempted a portrait of her using paint, collage and pencils, as well as making paper chains to decorate our school grounds.

Friday 20th May 2022 - Today in Maths the children were measuring in centimetres using rulers.

This afternoon the children learned about the artist Megan Coyle who used collage to produce art work that looked like paint. The children produced some of their own work in the style.

Thursday 20th May 2022 - The children have been researching The Kalahari Desert today as that is where our core book Meerkat Mail is set.

Tuesday 17th May 2022 - Today all the Year One children have been together. This afternoon we did a yoga session before starting our work.

This afternoon all the year ones had PE. We set up a circuit of activities outside.

Friday 13th May 2022 - Today the children made their own save the polar bear posters.

Thursday 12th May 2022 - This week in English the children have been learning about polar bears. They have worked all week on their fact files.

Our afternoon started with handwriting practice. The children are being encouraged to start each letter in the correct place, all these letters are curly caterpillar letters which start in the same place.

We then got creative finding out about the artist Henri Matisse and creating collages inspired by his work.

Wednesday 11th May 2022 - The children have been learning to count in twos. We used lots of different apparatus to practice.

Tuesday 10th May 2022 - This week the children have been finding out about polar bears. We found out that polar bears can grow up to 3 metres so we worked out what 3 metres actually looked like.

Monday 9th May 2022 - In Jigsaw today the children were discussing what makes a good friend. They sorted attributes for a good friend in table groups then discussed it as a whole group.

Friday 6th May 2022 - In Science the children have been grouping things according to whether they are alive, dead or never been alive.

Our learning break this morning was dancing along to Believer.

Thursday 5th May 2022 - Back to reality today but the children loved talking about our trip yesterday. They also worked their socks off to write a recount of the day.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park Trip - Wednesday 4th May 2022.

It has been an absolute pleasure to take Puffin Class on a trip today. Every single child behaved impeccably and were a credit to their parents / carers and our school. We hope you enjoy the photos.

All creatures great and small

We all loved seeing the polar bears after our last core book about The Little Polar Bear. The children could see that in real life polar bears are not really white.

We had an early lunch as the children (and adults) were starving!

The tigers were not very sociable today but we did spot them eventually.

Sheltering from a very heavy down pour of rain but we did spot the giraffes.

Friday 30th April 2022 - Today the children wrote their own story about Lars the polar bear.

Wednesday 27th April - Continuing with place value in Maths.

PE today was Throwing and Catching (Invasion) starting with a animal movement warm up game

Tuesday 26th April 2022 - this morning in Maths the children were working on recording how many tens and ones in numbers to 50.


Monday 25th April 2022 - Today the children wrote the beginning of the Little Polar Bear story

Friday 22nd April 2022 - In English today the children were answering questions from our core book

In Maths the children were making numbers to 50 using tens and ones.

Thursday 21st April 2022 - Today the children sequenced all the events in the story of The Little Polar Bear and drew a story map.

Tuesday 19th April 2022 - It was lovely to see all the Puffins again today and hear all about their Easter holidays. Our Jigsaw theme this week is Relationships and the children started by talking about their own family.

Wednesday 30th March - This was our last dance session so the children worked in groups to make up dances using all the skills they had learnt in previous sessions.

Wednesday 23rd March 2022 - Puffins have had such a busy day. We started off with phonics writing words using the spit vowel digraph a-e.

In PE the children moved in unison (at moving in the same way at the same time) and cannon (moving in the same way one after another)

This afternoon in Jigsaw the children were learning about how to cross the road safely. We practiced outside in the sunshine.

Tuesday 22nd March 2022 - Today the children used Rekenreks in maths to show quality as part of our maths mastery programme.

In Science the children have been learning about what happens if an animals needs are not met and they become endangered species.

In RE the children have started to learn about the life of St Peter. Today we read the story of how Jesus asked him to be one of his disicples.

Wednesday 16th March 2022 - Today's Dance session was about dynamics, the children listened to different music and matched their movements accordingly.

Our PE Super Star today

We have been learning about animals and their needs this term. Today Mrs Watson brought Gus the hamster to visit us and we started to learn about how to look after a hamster.

Tuesday 15th March - Today started with Wow Write where the children began writing the first part of the Leon and the Place Between story.

This afternoon we went out into the school grounds to learn about seasonal change and looking for signs of spring.

Back in the classroom we recorded our findings.

Monday 7th March 2022 - As part of our topic WHAT A PERFORMANCE we were really lucky to watch a real show by Mike the Magician.

Our book for the next two weeks is Leon and the Place Between which is a beautiful book with lots of wonderful language.

Wednesday 2nd March - Today in PE the children were moving along pathways using different movements, speeds and levels.

Friday 25th February 2022 - This week the children having been doing a Wake Up Shake up session to a super hero song.

Thursday 24th February 2022 - In Maths today the children were using bead strings and number lines to add numbers up to 20.

In Art the children have been using different media to make patterns experimenting using pencils, crayons, pastels, chalk and charcoal.

Wednesday 23rd February- Today we had PE with Next Level Sports, the children were moving on different levels.

Tuesday 22nd February 2022 - Welcome back we hope you all had a lovely half term break. Today we started our new whole school programme called Take Five which teaches breathing practices to help children to regulate their emotions.

Thursday 10th February 2022 - DT DAY - DESIGNING AND MAKING AN ASIAN WRAP. First the children tasted a variety of foods.

Wednesday 9th February - In Science this half term the children have been learning about lifecycles.

Tuesday 8th February- Today the children were learning about food groups and their activity was to work in a pair to sort food into their groups.

Today was SAFE INTERNET DAY and the children learned about keeping their personal information safe.

Monday 7th February 2022- Today the children have been learning about the Jewish festival Hanukkah, they listened to the story then sequenced the pictures as they retold it in groups.

In PE the children had great fun with team races using different gymnastic moves joined together. Can you spot the soldier crawl, crab, monkey and snail moves?

Friday 4th February - Well done to this weeks Puffin Hero

This week the children have worked really hard to write a non chronological report about Beijing.

Thursday 3rd February 2022 - CHINESE NEW YEAR. The children had great fun learning about Chinese New Year. This afternoon they took part in Chinese New Year crafts.

Followed by a Chinese Banquet - the children all tried eating with chop sticks too.

Wednesday 2nd February 2022 - Today the children listened to the story of how the Chinese Zodiac years got their names. The children loved the story and put the pictures in the correct order.

Friday 28th January 2022 - In phonics today some of the children spotted the different ew graphemes in a piece of text.

This week the children have been learning about life cycles in Science.
