Kingfishers, Year 3, 2020/21

Hello my name is Mrs Ward and I teach the Year 3, Kingfisher Class.

Keep looking regularly on this page for photos and updates about the children’s learning.

A few notices...

We want the children to LOVE reading. We will be reading various texts in class and we want the children to be reading as much as they can at home: stories, poems, facts, instructions, jokes, photo captions, anything!

They will also have a school book to read. Please ensure you write in their diary each day and the diaries need to be in school each day.

Thank you.

Spellings will be bought home on a Friday and will be tested the following Friday.

You can find their spellings inside the reading diaries for that week.

This is the handwriting we use in school, before the children learn to join the letters.

We will be practising daily in different ways and sometimes incorporate this with spelling practise.

Word of the day:

Each day, we learn a new word. The children have really enjoyed this and we have had some fun times explaining and using them.

What has really impressed me is how they have remembered their meanings: tempestuous, flawless, humiliated and swagger are just some of the examples.

Try asking your child the words they have learned; I am sure you will be impressed!

P.E Days

P.E will take place on a Monday afternoon. Please ensure the children keep their P.E kits in school and that earrings are removed.

Thank you.

Year 3 and 4 sports day 2021 - what a fun day! πŸƒπŸ»β€β™€οΈπŸƒπŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ

Sports activities - it was a hot afternoon but we were able to grab some rest in the shade. A fun afternoon had by all. βš½οΈπŸ“πŸŽΎ

Once you’d manage to avoid getting your hair caught in chain, and your body was baring the weight of the armour, you then had to lug around a very heavy sword into battle πŸ—‘

After watching the opening clip from the film and listening to chapter 1, Kingfisher made some brilliant and detailed notes about the different elements of setting. Well done everyone! I can’t wait to explore this story with you!

Our new text in English from tomorrow will be the Sword in the Stone.

Editing: One of our targets in Kingfisher is to look for errors or improvements, and change them with our green pen. We are doing really well with this. πŸ–ŠπŸ€©

English: New speaker, new line. We had to identify the speech in a piece of text and highlight it. When the text started a new line, we knew it was a new speaker and swapped our colour over.

Science: We dissected Tulips and placed them on the flower mat, labelling the different parts. 🌷

Tuesday 4th May

In maths, we had to solve various problems using the 4x table. We had a successful session. Well done Kingfisher Class!

Art: Clay work. We used techniques learnt from previous sessions in sketching, and transferred these to scoring in the clay. We used cross-hatching and stippling to see if it held two pieces of clay together.

Friday 30th April

Practising our conversation skills: We used the scene from the bridge where Robin Hood first encounters Little John. 🏹 🌳
