Holly Hill Primary and Nursery School

Kingfishers, Year 3, 2020/21

Just a note from me to explain the current situation COVID situation in school.

As you know, we have a positive case of COVID-19 in Swallow class. Mrs. Fisher was absent from school on Thursday and Friday so is able to continue teaching as she is not a close contact. However, to cover her absence, Mrs. Ward had taught in Swallow class on Thursday afternoon and will therefore now need to self-isolate as she is a close contact. For the rest of the week Mrs. Fisher will teach Kingfisher class and Mrs. Ward will lead the remote learning for Swallow class.

Hope that makes sense - just didn't want any Kingfisher parents to be concerned that we had the teacher from the positive class in their class!

Hello my name is Mrs Ward and I teach the Year 3, Kingfisher Class.

Keep looking regularly on this page for photos and updates about the children’s learning.

A few notices...

We want the children to LOVE reading. We will be reading various texts in class and we want the children to be reading as much as they can at home: stories, poems, facts, instructions, jokes, photo captions, anything!

They will also have a school book to read. Please ensure you write in their diary each day and the diaries need to be in school each day.

Thank you.

Spellings will be bought home on a Friday and will be tested the following Friday.

You can find their spellings inside the reading diaries for that week.

This is the handwriting we use in school, before the children learn to join the letters.

We will be practising daily in different ways and sometimes incorporate this with spelling practise.

Word of the day:

Each day, we learn a new word. The children have really enjoyed this and we have had some fun times explaining and using them.

What has really impressed me is how they have remembered their meanings: tempestuous, flawless, humiliated and swagger are just some of the examples.

Try asking your child the words they have learned; I am sure you will be impressed!

P.E Days

P.E will take place on a Monday afternoon and Friday morning. Please ensure the children keep their P.E kits in school and that earrings are removed.

Thank you.
